The story behind Shift Happens.

Shift Happens is a presentation that exploded into a worldwide phenomenon. It was one of the first presentations to be massively shared across social media and stands as one of the most viewed presentations of all time.

Karl Fisch, an educator in Colorado, authored the original version to present at a teachers meeting. Combining content from authors like David Warlick, Thomas Friedman, Ray Kurzweil and others, Karl's presentation told the compelling story of globalization in the information age. Karl then worked with Scott McLeod to share a simple text-only version of the presentation on YouTube.

Shortly thereafter, Jeff Brenman (founder of Apollo Ideas) designed a new and highly-visual adaptation of Shift Happens. This new visual version became an international hit when it won first place in the 2007 World's Best Presentation Contest on SlideShare.net. Jeff later provided the visual direction to create a richly animated version of the presentation for Sony BMG that became hugely popular on YouTube in 2008.

Shift Happens has since been viewed by millions of people around the world. It exists as a type of open-source presentation, with a compelling narrative structure that has been adapted by hundreds of storytellers, to educate about our fast-changing and incredible world.
